Saturday, July 7th

Ok, so, Kevin said he would not be available this weekend, so, it goes back to Dwight, if he is still up to running the Star Wars game.

Who will be there?  I believe Matt said he would be up in Jersey this weekend with family.  Remember, posting if you are coming or not on here allows Terry to know how much food he will need to buy for us to consume.  Hopefully he will make burgers and brats this weekend.  :D

Comments:
I'll be there. Not sure when I will, just depends on things at the old apartment and the new place on what is happening and my money situation.

Is Dwight running this week, or me? Someone else have something they want to try running? I've got the start of a SW game mostly written and an in game excuse for an early fight with a bunch of enemy lightsaber-wielders.

Currently planning Italian sausage for dinner. Will likely need buns. Save the potato chips in the cabinet for dinner (so fancy hot dogs and potato chips are the plan).

So, since almost all of you do not have Facebook, you will not have seen this announcement from Kevin. He has gotten himself engaged. Take it as good or bad, he has gone and done it.

As for who is running, it has been 2 weeks since Dwight ran his campaign last, so, it -should- be him running. Unless he isn't showing up or he hasn't had enough time yet to do his again. Just remember, Kevin will be running next weekend...if things are still a go for him.

Hooray for Kevin! And a use for Facebook - imagine that!

I'll be unavailable this weekend. Also, I could have sworn Dwight was going to be out of town or something this weekend... might want to check with him before assuming he's running this weekend.

If both Matt and Dwight are out, then I would guess Curtis is as well, which leave just Rob and myself, which means, no real gaming this weekend. Movies and board games it would seem.

Well tell kevin gratz, trip did not go as planned. I will be there tomorrow with Curtis. Terry will be running.

The Story So Far
Orphanage of White Lies

One of the “Temple of the Khyber” sects on Jedha doesn't run a place of worship, but an orphanage-slash-boarding-school. There are no formal worship services, they preach that service and duty ARE their form of worship.

Followers are taught that service to fellow sentients across the galaxy (and beyond) is the true path to enlightenment and peace. In that vein, they teach that everyone must learn as much as they can to be useful to others, and be able to protect the innocent and teach the next generation to do the same. To encourage the attitude of selfless sacrifice for the greater good, the leaders of the orphanage take in all of the orphans they can find and heavily encourage followers to send their first-born to the orphanage as well, and occasionally more of their children.

The highest leaders of the orphanage are Kel Dor and Bardottan Monks; Evret and Marai, respectively. There are several humans and a couple duros as well, but the Kel Dor is in charge, and the Bardottan is a close second. Both of the leaders teach hand-to-hand combat, disipline, meditation and Knowledge (Lore). The others teach other skills, focusing on Mechanics. Followers submit themselves to the temple to assist in teaching efforts to help produce the most competent and knowledgeable young adults possible from the children the order raises. Many of these adult followers are parents of the non-orphaned children who want to spend some time with their emotionally distant children.

The older children are encouraged (forced) to practice self-sacrifice and service to others by using their skills in mechanics to assist others in the kyber mines and work on vehicles for the local population. The order also has a small factory where the smarter teenagers can instead practice their craft manufacturing weapons for commercial sales, usually to imperial officers who buy them as status symbols.

Part of their training in combat includes how to use and manufacture light bows, which aer not sold at all, and how to fight with training stick that mimic super light weapons, like phase knives.

Every year the orphanage holds a series of competitions and games to determine which group the children belong in. there are five different groups, and the groups are renamed every year according to astrological signs. Children rarely change which group they are in after they're ten years old, but it sometimes happens. Different groups focus on different parts of the order's businesses, but few children feel put off by the work of their group.

The money made by the order's businesses and donations is quite exceptional. The children aren't let in on how profitable this all is, but they don't go hungry and are fairly well entertained and their minds always kept occupied. When they graduate, they usually form their own groups of 17-19 year olds, and get a small-cheap ship to go off in the galaxy to serve others.

Truth and Lies
How can the truth be both lighter and darker than the false front of the sweat-shop raising of children acquired through manipulation and kidnapping? The truth is that the adult followers and graduates of the order are well aware that the order is trying to protect the next generation of force-sensitives from the empire. Evret and Marai are powerful force sensitives who wish for the return of the Jedi to oppose and destroy the empire. They do their best to teach the children the ways of the Jedi, but they were never Jedi themselves; Evret knew some Jedi personally, and Marai killed some Jedi, but neither were taught to be Jedi or really taught their values.

In an effort to mimic the ways of the Jedi, the monks try to start the training for the force-sensitives young, and encourage emotional detachment from other people and things, only really allowing attachment to the ideals of the order and a sense of duty to life in general. They aren't really too successful at this, resulting in young adults that are either sociopaths or psychopaths who are good at hiding their dysfunction, or at least people really good at hiding their emotions.

While force-sensitive students are young, they are taught only the basics of using their powers, and mostly taught surreptitiously. Evret and Marai teach them to be afraid of someone finding out that they have “powers” and hunting them down and killing them for being different. When they're a little older, they are given more formal lessons in groups with similar powers under the guise of learning to control it so they don't hurt someone or get found out. This is the first time they learn that there are others like them, and that the school looks for them. Its usually not until the kids are 13 or 14 years old before they realize that the group-choosing games are a sham, that they are grouped by what powers they are strongest with, or grouped up with fighters or thinkers. The real groups are Control, Sense, Alter, Combat, Knowledge. The truth that they are trying to bring back the Jedi is usually revealed when they are 16 or 17 years old; this makes practice much easier and reduces the chances of accidents letting out their secrets.

Evret, the characters learn, is a Baran Do Sage. A force using tradition that focuses on following the felt-but-unseen will of the force. He excitedly teaches force users their initial powers and shows them the different lightsaber forms. While he wasn't truly trained as a Jedi, lightsaber combat predates the Jedi... and he has a holocron to help him learn.

Marai is a scary thin reptilian something-or-other. She is a master of violence and deception... and intimidating as hell. She is rumored to be the one who takes care of students who become threats to the school. She is actually a dark-side force user whose interest in the school is fomenting a large rebellion against the empire (or whatever government is in power, she isn't too particular). She knows her work here will do more for the light side than the dark, but she doesn't serve any one or anything, including the force. It is easy for a force user to tell she is evil, but she somehow hides herself from detection through the force. She teaches close combat of all types, deception, stealth, skulduggery and intimidation. She demands discipline in her presence, even from random adults on the street, and usually gets it. She's cause a lot of trouble for the school in the form of beating imperial inspectors who apparently made rude comments about her and is good enough at intimidation to have convinced them to not bother her with petty revenge. There is a large mask in her main training room that no one is allowed to touch, and she has severely beaten several students for touching it, or even just trying.

The school has a large docking bay with room for enough SS-54s and HWK-290s to carry everyone in the school along with a dozen vehicles in the shop for repairs by students.

Part of each student's graduation work is the repair of an old clone-wars-era R2 unit who is their shop assistant... and lightsaber holder. Lightsaber creation is taught to everyone, and force-sensitive students are expected to make their own training lightsabers before they graduate, and are gifted with cracked jedha crystals before graduating to make the lightsabers into real weapons AFTER they leave the school.

The first adventure is the school being found out. So while it seems like my typical "Harry Potter" style, it will be different. Hogwarts should burn the first night unless we don't really get started.

Ok, just to let you guys know, I saw that OggDude is back online on the Fantasy Flight's website. He said he is about to release a new version, 2.3, but it isn't going to include anything recent, just the ability to construct ships. But, he has two of the newer books (No, doesn't include the one that we are looking for) and he will be inputting them as soon as he has the ability too.

Ok, he has actually put out a beta of version 2.3 that you can only download from his post in the Fantasy Flight's forums here:

https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/topic/89135-another-character-generator/?page=388

It has almost everything from Fully Operation in it, including vehicle crafting.
